cool kids in Berlin

I like frozen yogurt. And I like this frozen yogurt shop in Berlin. It looks like someone splattered every flavour of yogurt all over the walls. One day I will go there. Happy weekend.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw this picture today.

I miss you my wire-haired Dachshund friend. I think of you still...

lot's of nice pictures, 1 nice video, nice work

I love this video:

Nice Work / Injozi / Gass / Clickmaven Christmas party 2009 from Nice Work on Vimeo.

Nice work Nice Work.

you and me

I made these silhouette portraits of Terence and I the other day. I needed something for two pretty frames we bought in Parys last year. We look like we are gazing into each others eyes. How romantic...

baby bobbejaan

I lady at my office rehabilitates monkeys and other animals. Last night she got a baby baboon who's mother was killed by a leopard. She had to bring him to work this morning because he's still very young and needs to wear a nappy and be bottle fed. It was very hard taking a picture of him because he doesn't keep still for very long. Here he is approving some layouts and making a phone call.

Meeting baby bobbejaan made me happy after a very hard time at work. I wish you all the best little guy. Maybe one day we'll meet again and you won't steel my packet of chips or anything.

weekend things

Most of my pictures are nocturnal because I worked during the day all weekend.
Having breakfast by myself was sad.
Our friends are finally reunited after the holidays.
I did some crafty stuff that made me happy
and couldn't get images of Haiti out of my mind...

I'm not very patriotic but Emir Kusturica makes me proud. I've been hearing so much about his movie festival called Kustendorf which is held in Drvengrad up in the Zlatibor mountains in Serbia. Some of his guests include Jim Jarmusch and Johnny Depp. The festival might be one of those things I dream of going to someday, but for now I've got my mind set on Drvengrad (Wooden Town) where the event is held. It was built as a set for one of Kusturica's movies and has been revived as an art center where all sorts of creative things happen. It's also where Emir lives. All the buildings in the village are made mostly of wood and the location is pretty spectacular. That's where I'm going next.

Some of Kusturica's movies: Time of the Gypsies, Arizona Dream, Underground, Black Cat, White Cat, Life is a Miracle. Official site

weekend things

I've been working really hard and missing Terence.
Luckily I went to see him last weekend and these are some of the things we did:

Lots of walking on the promenade.
Drinking, eating and licking ice cream in Franschhoek.
A drive on Chapman's peak.

I only took a few pictures but Cape Town looks much much better in real life anyway.

I'm not sure...

because it's a beautiful Saturday morning and I am at work.

Of Steve and his banjo

I've always liked Steve Martin. I remember loving The Three Amigos when I was growing up and my brother and I watching it loads of times. But when I discovered Steve is an amazing banjo player I liked him even more. Here's a video of him playing at the David Letterman show.

I'd love to be able to play the banjo. I would sing "Comin' round the mountain" and wear my cowboy boots.

fast and good looking

If I was brave enough to ride a bicycle in Johannesburg I would love one like this please:

Then I would have an excuse to buy nice bike accessories like this bike frame bag:

Custom bike from Fast Boy Cycles
Leather bag from Billykirk

Joburg, can you please become a bicycle friendly city.

Tea time

I bought this yellow tray with bows on each side at an antique shop in Melville. One day I'm going to use it for a very fancy tea party where everyone will have to wear a hat and be all posh. For now I like the way it looks with a bouquet of yellow roses on it. It makes me so happy.

See the rainbow, eat the Christmas feast

My family celebrates Christmas today. Just another way we have to be a little bit different to everyone else. I'm taking the rest of the day off to go stuff my face with my mother's delicious food.

Here's a rainbow we saw above our building the other day. It was one of those amazing super bright ones, with a twin sister right next to it, that makes you think there really is a treasure somewhere at the end.

Merry Christmas.

Holiday things - part two

A rainy walk on the beach
My most favourite black Cocker Spaniel
Hibiscus Mall pet shop
30 Seconds on Christmas
and Happy New Year around a bonfire!

I left my heart in Ramsgate...'s sitting on this little bench in a second hand shop on the South Coast.

It reminds me of this Ercol loveseat from the 1950's.

Not as sophisticated but I think it would look great painted white in an all white Scandinavian inspired room... in my dreams.

Holiday things - part one

I love Joburg when it's a ghost town
A walk in the park
Margaritas on our balcony
I met Jacques who liked ice cream, boerewors rolls and Johnny Bravo.
We didn't understand each other but we communicated through drawings.
Nice to meet you Jacques.
